陶芸指導歴３５年。個展多数。とにかく手仕事が大好きで得意。自分で出来ることは何でもやります。当工房の壁塗り、床張り、テーブル・棚作り、電気工事等、出来ることは全てしました。蕎麦打ちやベーグル作りも得意！　手仕事は技術だけでなく、自分を発見できる貴重な体験：「失敗を怖れないことが大切。何度も失敗したって良いわけです。大切なのは、そこからどんなことを考えたり感じたりできるかなのですから。」担当：楽焼、金継ぎ

久家淑子

陶芸・アクセサリーデザイン制作５０年。金継ぎ３５年。個展多数。加守田章二の独自性、バーナード・リーチの創った飴釉（あめゆう）、そして、河井寛次郎の呉須釉（ごすゆう）に魅せられて陶芸をはじめて５０年。その間、１８人の作家が巣立ち、現在も、新しい作り手が育ちつつ有ります。その方達と一緒に手しごとを続けてきたことが誇りです。手仕事のモットーは：「独自なものであること。そして、夢と遊びの有るものを丁寧に作り続けること。」

ジャレド・ブレイタマン

ハバード大学卒・スタンフォード大学文化人類学博士号修得。シリコンバレーにおけるウェブデザイン関係の仕事をへて、２００９年に当工房のスタッフになる。企画支援、英語指導・翻訳、写真担当。メリーランド州バルチモア生まれ。現在、実家はニューヨーク市。メキシコとブラジルでの研究を通して、スペイン語とポルトガル語を学ぶ。東京移住前は、サンフランシスコを拠点としていた。人類学者として、東京の緑と都市空間に関する記事がCNNや日本版Newsweekに掲載された。www.tokyogreenspace.com

久家衆生

カリフォルニア大学バークレイ校卒・スタンフォード大学近代日本文学・比較文学博士号修得。ペンシルバニア州立大学で比較文学を四年間教える。２００８年に帰国。プロフェッショナルを対象に英会話と英語でのプレゼンや論文の書き方を教えている。同時に、アルク社の語学学習カウンセラーも努める。当工房では、企画支援と英語レッスンを担当。

Yoshiichiro Kuge

For last 35 years, Yoshiichiro has dedicated himself to teaching ceramics to students of all ages. He held his own exhibitions while helping his students’ independent shows. D.I.Y. is his life. Whatever he can do on his own, he just does it. That includes installing flooring and new lighting, creating furniture, as well as making bagels and soba noodles. Craft is a great way to discover yourself: “You don’t need to be afraid of making mistakes. What’s important is what you think and feel during the process.”

Yoshiko Kuge

Yoshiko has taught and created ceramics and jewelry for 50 years. She held her own exhibitions while helping her students prepare for competitions. About 18 students have become independent artists from her art studio, and new ones are hatching now. Yoshiko simply enjoys working with young artists. Her motto is: “Be original. And create works that are magical and playful.”

Jared Braiterman, PhD

After studying Latin American history at Harvard University, Jared attended Stanford University where he completed a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology. As a design anthropologist, he worked for major Silicon Valley companies and innovative startups. Jared has been working as a consultant/instructor with the Kuges since 2009. Among many, one of his research projects is “Tokyo Green Space” (www.tokyogreenspace.com) which explores the co-existence of humans and plants in the world’s largest city. Jared has taught at the University of Tokyo, and his research and essays are featured in the Japan Times, CNN, and the Newsweek Japan. He is also an avid photographer.

Shu Kuge, PhD

Shu spent his twenties and thirties in the United States. He studied at UC Berkeley and Stanford University, where he completed his Ph.D. in Japanese Literature and Comparative Literature. Shu taught comparative literature at the Pennsylvania State University for four years. Currently, he teaches English to working professionals from different fields while writing novels.
